Frequently asked questions and answers

Very good ones! In the WALTER GROUP you have every opportunity to start your career. If you come from an educational institute with an economic, linguistic or even technical focus, you can immediately and directly join our business. You can join without industry knowledge in the context of an intensive trainee programme which we call "Train the Winner".

Accompanied by your own coach, you will improve your professional and social skills and continuously grow into your future roles. Because the WALTER GROUP is constantly and sustainably growing, new career opportunities always arise.

Please note that the WALTER GROUP fills almost all management positions from its own ranks.

Generally professional experience or industry knowledge are not necessary for entry into our operational business. Because we educate new employees as part of our "Train the Winner" trainee programme and we cover both theory and practice. However, there are some areas in which we greatly appreciate relevant experience and previous knowledge. For example, in our IT, Legal or Sales departments, where we can offer (young) professionals attractive career opportunities. Our recommendation: Just take a look at our employment opportunities.
The classic apprenticeships such as freight forwarding manager or office clerk are not offered in our company.
LKW WALTER is a transport organisation without its own vehicle fleet. Because we plan, organise and manage road transports, but they are carried out by our transport partners. So it makes no sense to apply to LKW WALTER as a driver.
That's easy. It's best to use our online application form. You'll find it in the job advertisements in the employment opportunities. The application form allows you to upload up to 5 attachements. Your CV, a cover letter and the most important references should be included. Of course, you can also apply in writing by post or e-mail.

In our employment opportunities each advert has a link that takes you to the online application form. Please fill it out and send it together with your application documents. Immediately afterwards, you will receive an e-mail. It confirms that we have received your application. Then it takes a maximum of 14 days for you to recieve a message from us about the result of your application. If it is positive, the next steps are:

  1. Initial "getting to know you" interview by phone
  2. A second interview (online or in person) with one of our recruiters
  3. Optional: A potential follow-up appointment with a head of department

We will inform you of the final result of your application by e-mail or phone. If you want information about your application status in the meantime, our HR manager will be happy to help you.

If you successfully complete phase 1 of the interview process (telephone interview) we will invite you to a second interview. In case this is in person we will bear the travel expenses.

No, if you are a citizen of an EEA country. Yes, if you come from a third country. In this case, you need a residence permit as well as the work permit. Of course, we are happy to help you with submitting the application.

Further information on the subject of work permits can be found at the Public Employment Service Austria (AMS).

Our vacancies are primarily directed towards graduates from vocational schools and academies, universities of applied sciences and universities with a focus on economy, languages and technology. So you don't need any specialised knowledge. We impart the necessary know-how for your professional success in our "Train the Winner" trainee programme for newcomers.
German is our company language. In order to be able to communicate sufficiently with all employees in your training and internal communication, we require a minimum entry level of B1 in German. Better still would be B2 (according to the European reference framework for foreign languages).

Starting in English (at least C1 level) is possible for certain positions. We offer a trainee programme in English on a quarterly basis. The focus of our onboarding process is the integration of new employees which includes support in learning the German language quickly.
We talk to our customers and business partners in their mother tongue. You should be sufficiently fluent in your respective foreign language(s). Specifically, we require B1. Better still would be B2 (according to the European reference framework for foreign languages).
There are no fixed start dates. The trainee programme is individually tailored to you and starts immediately after you join the WALTER GROUP. It comprises solid basic training and in-depth specialist training according to your future job assignment.
The trainee programme fulfils two important tasks. On the one hand, it should provide you with professional training and prepare you for future tasks. On the other hand, it helps us to get to know each other. But it is not an additional candidate selection process. Assume that, as a traditional family business, we are committed to a long-term collaboration with you. However, we expect you to roll up your sleeves and do your best every day.
Of course, you will receive your full salary during the training phase, because you will already be actively involved within the scope of your capabilities.
Based on the legal regulations we work 38.5 hours per week. Our working day starts at 8:00 am. However, with the help of our flexitime, you can also start your working day between 7 and 9 am and end your working day earlier or later accordingly. We don't work night shifts and, of course, we enjoy our free time at the weekend. As a full-time employee you are entitled to 5 weeks holiday annually. What's more, the WALTER GROUP gives you the opportunity to work from home as well as 38.5 additional hours of compensatory time-off for the times when you have to work longer.
A well-groomed and professional appearance is important to us. That means leisure clothing in your free time and a casual business look in the office!
Of course, we can't guarantee you an apartment, but we are happy to help you in your search. We work together with reliable landlords and housing providers in the region, so that you are highly likely to be able to directly and easily move into your start apartment.
In addition to public transport, we provide a free shuttle bus service for our Wiener Neudorf employees between Vienna and Wiener Neudorf. The Kufstein site is very central and is perfectly reachable by public transport (bus or train). Those who travel by car can use our free parking spaces (car parks) at both sites.

Performance is a very central aspect in the WALTER GROUP. At the same time, balance, health and a family-like working atmosphere are all very important to us.

  • For a good work-life balance we support sport activities such as beach volleyball, football, running, skiing, tennis and spinning.
  • We promote the health of our employees through non-smoking offices, low-radiation monitors, an optimum indoor climate, large relaxation areas (meeting points and WALTER Park), a doctor who can provide vaccinations in house, and much more.
  • As a family business we attach great importance to a good working atmosphere and a strong team spirit, supported by a strong sense of "we-feeling".

The WALTER GROUP never participates in speculative business or risky acquisitions. We grow organically with our partners and only spend money if we've already earned it!

With pleasure! If you are currently attending a vocational secondary school or if you are a student at university or college, you can apply for a summer internship or an internship lasting multiple months. After that, you will know exactly what your dream job in the WALTER GROUP might be.
We encourage you to apply for the position that interests you most. If there are other positions that you are interested in, please mention this in your application as a supplementary note. We generally review your application for all vacancies. Accordingly, we will contact you if we have a more suitable position on offer.
We always check your application for all positions for which, according to your profile, we think you're suitable. If you receive a rejection from us, this means that we currently do not have a suitable position for you. If you are invited to an interview, you can discuss the positions you're interested in directly with your interviewer.
If we have available internship positions, you'll find the internship advertisement under vacancies. If the relevant advertisement can't be seen there, unfortunately all internship positions have already been filled. We recommend that you send your application 4-6 weeks before the start of the internship. If no internships are currently advertised but you're still interested, you can contact us by phone at any time. We'll be happy to inform you of the opportunities.
In order to offer every applicant the best opportunity to find the right job, you can join us for a three- or six-month internship as well as a permanent position. In all cases, you will receive comprehensive training from us as part of our trainee programme. If, during the internship, it is confirmed that our ideas and expectations match up, then the internship can lead directly to a permanent contract. It goes without saying that our internships are remunerated!
