Philipp Z., Division Manager at LKW WALTER

Originally, Philipp had no particular interest in logistics. He just wanted to gain some initial professional experience. And so, during his time at the commerical academy in Wörgl, he applied for an internship at LKW WALTER. With an unexpected result.

Because during his internship, Philipp quickly realised that the job at LKW WALTER was more than just logistics. This was mainly due to the fact that he was in the middle of the action right from the start. "My colleagues and I made sure that the just-in-time supply chain for a well-known Italian car manufacturer was working without a hitch and that their belts kept running."

After his internship, basketball fan Philipp immediately scored a three-pointer and agreed on a permanent position, which he took up a week after his A-levels. "I'm simply fascinated by the responsibility I have as a transport manager for large companies, among others. That's just exciting."

Currently, Philipp is climbing another rung on his career ladder by learning to speak Polish.

Note: Philipp was Transport Manager at the time of the interview. He was appointed Division Manager in December 2021. Congratulations on this career move!

Philipp's personal tip:

You have to believe in yourself. Especially when it comes to a job application, it's important that you have confidence in yourself and in your abilities. Even if you're not very sure of yourself yet. To give you an example, I used to be intimidated by phone calls in a foreign language, but today that just makes me laugh!

What career opportunities do I have as a secondary school graduate or university / university of applied sciences graduate?

Very good ones! In the WALTER GROUP you have every opportunity to start your career. If you come from an educational institute with an economic, linguistic or even technical focus, you can immediately and directly join our business. You can join without industry knowledge in the context of an intensive trainee programme which we call "Train the Winner".

What career opportunities do I have as an experienced professional?

Generally professional experience or industry knowledge are not necessary for entry into our operational business. Because we educate new employees as part of our "Train the Winner" trainee programme and we cover both theory and practice. However, there are some areas in which we greatly appreciate relevant experience and previous knowledge. For example, in our IT, Legal or Sales departments, where we can offer (young) professionals attractive career opportunities. Our recommendation: Just take a look at our employment opportunities.

Does the WALTER GROUP offer apprenticeships?

The classic apprenticeships such as freight forwarding manager or office clerk are not offered in our company.

What does the application process involve?

In our employment opportunities each advert has a link that takes you to the online application form. Please fill it out and send it together with your application documents. Immediately afterwards, you will receive an e-mail. It confirms that we have received your application. Then it takes a maximum of 14 days for you to recieve a message from us about the result of your application. If it is positive, the next steps are:

First "getting to know you" interview by phone or Skype.
Face to face interview with one of our recruiters.
Possible second appointment with the head of a specialist department for certain specific positions.
